Ailing Foodworkers

Requirement:

All food service employees are required by the Kansas Food Code to report any illness to the Person-In-Charge.
 

Restriction:

If employees report the following symptoms, their job duties must be restricted to limit their contact with food or food preparation.

Symptoms:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Jaundice
  • Sore Throat w/Fever
  • Infected Wound (i.e., cut, lesion or boil)
  • Contact w/Confirmed "Big 4"


Exclusion:

If employees report the following illnesses, confirmed by a physician, they must be excluded from all activities in a food service establishment. They may ONLY return to work after receiving a physician's release.

 

Big 4 Foodborne Illnesses:

  • Salmonella typhi
  • Shigella, spp.
  • Shiga Toxin-Producing E. coli
  • Hepatitis A virus

Must be confirmed be laboratory testing

 


Foodborne Illness Is Not a Menu Item!
