How Home*A*Syst Works

First, Evaluate Your Home
Home*A*Syst takes you step-by-step through a series of worksheets that help you understand potential hazards in and around your home. Chances are, at least some of these problems apply to you:

Fertilizers, Herbicides, Insecticides -- Incorrect use or storage of fertilizers and pesticides can threaten drinking water and local wildlife.

Stormwater -- Rain water run-off affects your property and properties downstream.

Hazardous Materials -- Solvents, automotive products, stored fuels, and unwanted pesticides -- if improperly discarded or stored -- are serious health hazards.

Indoor Air -- Prevent the air you breathe from containing unhealthy levels of harmful gases such as radon from the soil or carbon monoxide from combustion.

Lead -- Homes built before 1978 are likely to have lead-based paint and lead in water pipes, which pose health risks to children.

Septic System -- A poorly maintained septic system can cause pollution, rather than prevent it.

Drinking Water -- An old, cracked, or poorly installed well casing is a pathway for pollution.

Second, Make an Action Plan
Home*A*Syst worksheets help you take action to correct potential problems. You can deal with the biggest problems first, as time and money allow.
