Industries regulated under the Industrial Pretreatment Program are recognized annually
for their compliance achievements by the Kansas Water Environment Association (KWEA) and
the Johnson County Environmental Department (JCED).
KWEA Awards
The KWEA’s awards program is entitled the "Gold and Silver Awards." A Gold
Award recipient achieved 100 percent compliance with all discharge and reporting requirements
during the review year; a good record of cooperation with the Pretreatment Coordinator was
maintained; and, the industry possessed a wastewater treatment system or made significant
efforts to minimize pollutant concentrations in their wastewater discharge so as to reduce
the need to incorporate pretreatment systems. The recipient of a Silver Award achieved the same
as noted for the Gold Award except that infrequent discharge violations may have occurred which
caused no harm to the treatment plant, the treatment plant workers, caused no pass through to
the receiving water and did not negatively impact biosolids disposal. The Gold and Silver Awards
are presented during the KWEA’s annual conference in April.

JCED Awards
The Johnson County Environmental Department presents the "Environmental Excellence
Award" to regulated industries which have achieved a minimum compliance rating of 90
percent, as determined by semi-annual Industrial Compliance Evaluations during the
calendar year. In addition, the industry must have demonstrated that they are environmentally
responsible members of the community during the evaluation period. The Environmental Excellence
Award is presented during the first quarter of the following calendar year.
Environmental Excellence Award Recipients
The Johnson County Environmental Department extends our congratulations and appreciation to
the award winners for a job well done!
