our community, your assistance is needed to help protect the County's
environment. Please be involved!
Report such things as:
- Inappropriate discharges to the sanitary sewerage system
- Unusual sewer odors
- Failed septic tank systems
- Excessive smoke stack emissions
- Water pollution
- Illegal solid waste or chemical dumping
- Food handling issues at restaurants
You may remain anonymous and information received will, at
your request, be held confidential. Here's how to make a report...
- Determine the Severity of the Event
Ask yourself: Is the event an emergency? Is there an immediate threat
to the health and safety of yourself or others? Or, can the event be
addressed during the Johnson County Environmental Department's normal
working hours?
- Document the Event
Write down the key information about the event, such as when the event occurred,
how long it has been going on, a precise description of the event site and
conditions observed, a description of any persons or vehicles involved, company
names, vehicle license numbers and name of other witnesses. Photos of the event
can be very helpful.
- Telephone for Assistance
In the event of an emergency, dial 911. Johnson County's Emergency Communications
personnel will have the appropriate response agency address your concern.
All other events should be reported to the Johnson County Environmental
Department at (913) 715-6900 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. JCED also maintains a 24-hour response service
for citizens unable to report the event during normal office hours. The 24-hour
response service can be accessed by calling JCED at (913) 715-6900 and following
the prompts in the message.
The Johnson County Environmental Department responds to all complaints received.
You will receive a telephone call from the staff performing the investigation and
a site investigation will be performed, if warranted. A follow-up telephone call to
you explaining the results of the investigation will be performed at your request.
Your participation and assistance is appreciated!
