Laboratory Division: Who We Are

The Johnson County Environmental Lab has been in continuous operation since 1967. The lab has gradually evolved from a small, dedicated wastewater lab into a full service facility offering custom lab and sampling services to municipalities, Johnson County residents, and other organizations such as the Four County Lake Region Resource Conservation District and the US Corps of Engineers.
One of the Laboratory Division's most important roles is to ensure the best possible treatment of Johnson County's wastewater through routine monitoring and extensive internal process testing of the Wastewater Department's treatment facilities.

The lab also provides field sampling and analytical services for the Department's Industrial Pretreatment Program as well as analysis of landfill leachates and monitoring wells.

The lab provides microbiological testing to confirm the quality of drinking water and to locate and confirm possible septic tank leaks. The Lab Division is also involved in water quality studies of local streams and lakes, in conjunction with other local and federal agencies.
