Recycling Information

The decision to recycle is a smart
one, and it is easy! Recycling materials such as plastic
bottles, aluminum cans and paper, conserves our natural
resources. It requires less energy to make products out of
recycled materials than from raw materials. Recycling also saves
space in our landfills so they can be used longer.
How can I hop into recycling?
Residential Curbside Recycling: In Johnson County, each
of the 19 cities manage their own waste services. Many offer curbside
recycling. Links to city recycling information are
listed here.
We hope that one day soon curbside recycling will be made available to
all our County residents. Currently, most multi-family residential
complexes (apartment buildings) are not equipped to collect your
recyclables. Also, some cities and home owners associations do not offer
curbside recycling services. Don't worry, there are other recycling
opportunities!
Community Recycling Drop-off Sites: There is a community recycling center here in
Johnson County that collects a wide variety of materials. Bridging the
Gap, a non-profit environmental organization in Kansas City runs and
operates this facility and four others in the metro.

Recycle Household Hazardous Waste (HHW): Johnson County operates
a collection facility for residents to drop off their household
hazardous waste. Household hazardous materials are a part of our daily
lives. They may be used when cleaning, remodeling, gardening, or
maintaining vehicles. When no longer needed, they become household
hazardous waste. To learn more or schedule a drop-off,
visit our HHW section.
The city of Olathe also runs a HHW. If you would like to learn more

NEW! Electronics Recycling (e-Waste):
JCED is now accepting e-waste on the second Saturday of the month,
May through October. Collection is by appointment only and only for
Johnson County residents. To find out what is accepted and how to
make an appointment, click here.
