Update on Recent Activities at APAC-Reno

July 2007
No odor complaints received by APAC, Johnson County or KDHE.
  1. No detectable readings at the ambient air monitors.

  2. Heavy rains at the end of June and beginning of July amounted to more than 10 inches at the APAC site causing high water at the lower pond.  The telemetry system at the West Seep location was impacted by water.  The hydrogen sulfide monitor was cleaned and checked and continued to log data. The telemetry system that transmits data from the monitor to the safety building was removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled. During the time that the system was being rebuilt the remaining seven monitors and two telemetry systems continued to operate properly. The monitor at the West Seep was checked regularly by Stinson Environmental Group personnel and no hydrogen sulfide was recorded.

  3. Average landfill gas concentration in July: Methane 35.5%; hydrogen sulfide 35-40 parts per million (ppm).

  4. An estimated 2,008,800 cubic feet of landfill gas was removed and treated in July.

  5. An estimated 2,688,000 gallons of contact water (water that has seeped through the landfill and accumulated underneath the landfill) and 188,866 gallons of well water (installed in April, 2007 in the southwest corner of landfill) were removed and treated in July.

  6. Comments received from KDHE on permit application, response submitted August 1st.
