treated in October.
- An estimated 2,947,298 gallons of contact water (water that has seeped
through the landfill and accumulated underneath the
landfill) and well water were removed and treated in
November.
- A public hearing was held by KDHE in November on the proposed
permit modification request.
December 2007
- No odor complaints received by KDHE, JCED or APAC-Reno. One hydrogen sulfide reading was
detected from the south source area monitor and four readings were detected from the
perimeter monitors as listed below. None were of a level of concern

- Per ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry), most people will not
smell hydrogen sulfide if it is less than 0.1 ppm for 1 hour. There are no definite
levels for residential levels of health concern. Most symptoms and health impacts
are based on animal and worker studies. ATSDR’s Minimum Risk Level (MRL) for acute
exposure (that is exposure lasting for up to 14 days) is 70 ppb and 30 ppb for
chronic exposure (longer than 365 days). Other factors in considering health effects
are duration of exposure, age and preexisting health issues. (One ppm or parts per
million H2S is one part hydrogen sulfide per one million parts air by volume. One
ppb or parts per billion is equal to 0.001 ppm.)
