Update on Recent Activities at APAC-Reno

March 2009

  1. An estimated 2,008,800 cubic feet of landfill gas removed and treated in March.

  2. An estimated 1,113,573 gallons of contact water (water that has seeped through the landfill and accumulated underneath the landfill) and well water were removed and treated in March.

  3. During the month of March, backup perimeter monitors were obtained from Detection Instruments and the perimeter monitors owned by APAC were sent in for service and calibration. (The perimeter monitors are not part of the alarm system.) The loaner monitors were replaced with the newly serviced monitors owned by APAC.  All of the original monitors are now in place and operational.

  4. During the month of March, 0.01 ppm of hydrogen sulfide was detected at the North, Northeast and Southeast perimeter monitors between 3:47 a.m. and 7:09 a.m. on March 15.  At that time the general wind direction in the area was to the north.  This is the day that a separation was detected and repaired in one of the water lines from the dewatering well to the lower pond area.

  5. Semiannual sampling of perimeter ground water wells was conducted in March. The report will be submitted to KDHE in April
