Update on Recent Activities at APAC-Reno

July 2009

  1. An estimated 2,008,800 cubic feet of landfill gas removed and treated in July.

  2. An estimated 1,948,166 gallons of contact water (water that has seeped through the landfill and accumulated underneath the landfill) and well water were removed and treated in July.

  3. The operation of the hydrogen sulfide monitoring system was evaluated in July by Detection Instruments personnel. A modem had been replaced earlier in the year and the settings were modified to more precisely correspond with the new modem. A plan is being prepared to replace certain components of the system based on estimated life. There were two issues with the perimeter monitors in the past month. The infrared communications port went down on one of the monitors and the battery went flat on one of the monitors.  Two replacement monitors were obtained and installed so these issues could be resolved.  Operating procedures are being modified to use a volt meter to check batteries before installation to make sure the batteries are good. If the monitor indicates dead battery, that battery will be removed and checked again to determine if there was an issue with the battery or the monitor.
